Like the previous poster, I too refuse to teach/tutor from this text and the other ABeka high school Math texts.įor the OP-I suggest looking for a 'reference text'- a different Geometry text that your daugther can look to for clarification.Ĭonstructions would not be a 'hill to die on', proofs would not be either (both have multiple correct ways of drawing/working out with the answer key only giving one possibility). The examples (which are FEW) often skip steps.ĪBeka's Geometry text is the absolute WORST Math text I have ever seen. The TE is the student text with the answers- NO HELP. While 'most' of the basics are there- there are holes too. They are recovered 1914 Heath Mathematics texts. I also have to disagree with this statement- especially they highlighted part.ĪBeka's high school Algebra texts are outdated-and yes, that IS possible. ( Abeka re-published excellent old textbooks that are very I know that I am not alone in my dislike of Abeka's Geometry text, and, I might add, their other high school level math texts. I have never seen another text which even talks about left and right sides of angles. For instance, there are the theorems about the left side and the right side of angles, and what happens when you "add" two angles' left sides together, or their two right sides, or the left side of one angle with the right side of another angle. And then there are some very bizarre theorems. Even with the solutions manual, I found it difficult to follow many of their proofs. I have a personal policy that I will never again tutor a student who is using Abeka's Geometry program. I have taught Geometry for 7 years now at our co-op, I taught my oldest son before that, I have tutored Geometry for many years using various textbooks, I am a self-proclaimed math nerd who does SAT Math practice tests for fun on Friday nights, I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering which included several courses using geometric constructions, etc. I respectfully disagree with this assessment. Well written, so there is nothing that a tutor shouldn't understand). (Abeka re-published excellent old textbooks that are very If you get a competent tutor the Abeka problems should not ![]() Geometry the way Abeka teaches it, as the Abeka Geometry Know their geometry properly they should be familiar with I don't know anything about that particular tutoring service but if they
